Backyard Cottages as a Retirement Solution
If you’re considering downsizing to a small, efficient, high end cottage in (or outside) the city, a backyard cottage might be for you. A backyard cottage can make for a great custom home for a retired couple or even a small family. Best of all, the existing home can serve as a rental, paying off the property’s mortgage. Coming from people who live in our own custom backyard cottage, we couldn’t recommend it more.
Potential Cost Savings in Kitchens
Designs leaving fixtures, outlets and lighting in the same locations can lead to major cost savings in any remodel, especially in the kitchen. When updating any electrical in a kitchen, you may be required to bring the entire room up to current electrical code, often a major undertaking for older homes.
Cabinet Refacing
Take modern mix and match styling trends to the bank. If existing kitchen or bathroom vanity cabinet boxes are in decent shape and the layout is workable, you might be able to work in a large cost savings by keeping and refacing some or all of your cabinets. Older plywood cabinet boxes are often higher quality than newer particle board boxes. Cost savings here can be translated into higher end cabinet facings, doors and hardware.
Small Bath Remodels
Small is beautiful. Small bathrooms are warm, cozy, and efficient uses of valuable space. Especially in older homes, smaller bathrooms are often a necessity. By focusing on the positives, creative space saving designs and touch a magic, we can help create your dream bathroom in that impossibly small footprint.
